Brain Injury Medicine
The Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship is a recently approved ACGME fellowship in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. The fellowship received initial ACGME accreditation in September 2016. The application window is currently open.
The purpose of the Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship is to provide comprehensive training for the evaluation and management of brain injuries across the entire spectrum of care from point of injury through rehabilitation; as well as across all types and severity of injuries.
This is a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship. Board-eligible/board-certified applicants from Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), Neurology, and Psychiatry are encouraged to apply. The fellowship is made possible through the collaboration of three sites across our current training landscape including: Veteran's Affairs Medical Center (VAMC-Minneapolis), Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC-Minneapolis), and Gillette Specialty Children's Healthcare (St. Paul). This partnership provides access to the entire specturm of care from emergent evaluation and management at a nationally-recognized level 1 trauma center, to combat-related injuries typically only seen at VA medical centers, and to a pediatric specific population at a site well known for its brain injury program. The fellowship year will consist of 12-one month rotations (6 months VA, 5 months HCMC,1 month Gillette) and will provide exposure to inpatient and outpatient management, an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, neuroradiology, and population specific procedures such as spasticity management with botulinum toxin injections. The fellow will be responsible for direct patient care and will also provide supervision of residents within the University of Minnesota PM&R residency program. Faculty from all sites will provide mentorship for the fellow during their time in the program.
Brain injury medicine programs across the country will be participating in The Match.
