How to Apply

The Residency application deadline is November 1. Interviews are scheduled from November to January, by invitation only. We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). You will need to submit your application documents electronically.

Apply via ERAS

International Medical Graduates
Please contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for further information.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must hold a M.D. or D.O. degree, or expect to graduate with a M.D. or D.O. degree by the time they matriculate into their PGY-1 year. Applicants should have graduated from medical school or osteopathic school within the last five years or should not have been away from practicing clinical medicine for more than three years.

Applications are only accepted via ERAS. No paper applications, resumes, or other documentation will be reviewed if received by fax or mail.

Letters of recommendation

Three letters of recommendation, plus the Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE) letter, are required. Letters of recommendation should come from clinical faculty that know the applicant well.

The Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States (COMLEX) is accepted in lieu of the United States Medical Licensing exam (USMLE).

The majority of considered applicants will have scores of 85 and above on the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 (CS), both on the first attempt. For 3-digit scores, both the Step 1 and Step 2 (CS) scores have been a minimum of 200 (both on first attempt). Many applicants have not received their scores for Step 2 (CS) when the application needs to be submitted. As long the score is pending, that is sufficient, and those scores would be reviewed at the time of interview.

U.S. clinical experience

The preference is that applicants have some U.S. experience, observerships or rotations, and a letter of recommendation from a PM&R physician. No specific set amount of time is required.

International Medical Graduates

IMGs are eligible to apply. PM&R accepts J-1 visa sponsorship for applicants who obtained an ECFMG certificate prior to visa application if the applicant is an international medical graduate (see Institution Policy on IMGs). We do not accept H1-B visa sponsorship.

Positions available

Four categorical positions are offered annually. One advance position is offered every other year. If applying for an advanced position, the following transitional year programs are acceptable: Family Practice, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Surgery and Internal Medicine. During the current 2018-2019 recruitment season, we are not matching for an advanced position.
